DIRECTOR, OFFICE MANAGER & COOK
DIRECTOR
Julie Kalakau grew up in Kailua and has a long history with Sunshine School dating back to the 1980's. After more than a decade away, she returned to Sunshine School in 2018 to be the Director. She has a B.S. in Human Services, with an emphasis on early childhood, from the University of Phoenix. Working with children and families is the passion that has guided her career. Before taking on a new challenge as a Child Life Specialist at Tripler Army Medical Center, she had been a teacher, and subsequently Assistant Director, at Sunshine School for over 20 years. Julie enjoys reading, music, and spending time with friends and family.
OFFICE MANAGER
Renee Kaleiopu was born and raised in Kailua just down the street from Sunshine School. She has been the Office Manager there since 2013, where she oversees the administrative needs of the school. She applies her organizational skills and work ethic towards maintaining and improving administrative functions, and also enjoys interacting with the children and their families. Renee loves baseball, the Beach and most of all spending time with her family (especially her grandchildren).
KITCHEN MANAGER
Chrissy Russell was born and raised in Las Vegas, but has always felt home by the ocean, a Mom of 3 beautiful children, 2 daughters and a son. A certified pastry chef graduating at top of class with honors from Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts. Also having experience as a culinary chef, cook, server and more in the food and beverage industry for 28 years from small time spots to fine dining. Her passion is pastry & making good whole food from scratch that will feed our bodies and mind for the better.
